EDINBURGH PREVIEW:

Ahir Shah & Bella Hull

Ahir Shah

2023 Edinburgh Comedy Award winner Ahir Shah is one of the fastest-rising comedians of his generation and is known for his sharp, intellectual brand of stand-up featuring a blend of philosophical inquiry, political vigour, and sweet gags.

Ahir is a regular on television and radio and has performed stand-up on Live At The Apollo, The Now Show and Stand Up Central. Outside of stand up, Ahir has been seen on shows including Have I Got News For You, QI, Frankie Boyle’s New World Order, Mock the Week, The Mash Report/Late Night Mash, Guessable, Rob Beckett’s Undeniable and Catastrophe.

Ahir’s show Dots completely sold out at the Edinburgh Fringe and toured the UK ahead of an international release on US streaming platform HBO Max filmed at the Vaudeville Theatre. The show followed Duffer and Control which also sold out and were both nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy Award for Best Show and subsequently toured the UK and overseas. Internationally, Ahir has played to sell out audiences at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, the Adelaide Fringe and Just for Laughs Montreal, and has toured in continental Europe and India. In 2023, Ahir returned to the Edinburgh Fringe with Ends, his first full run at the festival in 4 years, and which won the Edinburgh Comedy Award for Best Show.

An in-demand writer, Ahir has written on shows including The Mash Report/Late Night Mash and Mock the Week, has written and starred in the short films Ahir Shah’s Summer (Sky) and Ahir Shah’s Life Lessons (BBC Three), and has developed two sitcom pilots with Channel 4.

Bella Hull:

Bella Hull is a London-based stand-up comedian and writer and one of the UK’s most exciting young comedians.

In 2022, Bella brought her debut hour, Babycakes, to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and subsequently to London’s Soho Theatre to wide acclaim. She regularly plays to sell-out crowds across the UK and her TV appearances include BBC’s Stand Up for Live Comedy, ITV’s The Stand Up Sketch
Show and Comedy Central Live. She also co-hosts the Last Night Ever podcast with Jacob Hawley.

As a writer, Bella is working on a script commission with the BBC and her writing has been featured on BBC Radio 4’s Newsjack, Flux Magazine and she is the advice columnist for Quadra magazine.

What people are saying...

Another fantastic evening at Komedia’s Comedy Club! … the best way to spend your Friday or Saturday night in Brighton.

Lovely night with a variety of comedians with different styles. The MC was incredible and really engaged the audience! Highly recommend!

Great set up, good food and drinks and the comedy was stunning too.

The weekend was mega fun! Lovely team and crowd.

I just wanted to say a massive thank you to you and your amazing team for everything you all did to ensure last night’s show was a success!

Excellent venue… have never laughed so much! Nice bar food as well!

A MASSIVE thank you for making us feel so welcome and for all your support you gave us. Thank you to Steve (our Technician on the night) and Taylor (behind the bar) for being sooo brilliant and helpful. Big thank you to the doorman at Komedia for being so lovely too! 😊

The accessibility at Comic Boom Comedy Club was absolutely brilliant. I had emailed beforehand and your communication about accessibility was great. The staff at the event were also great. I really appreciate how easy it was in a wheelchair as not all venues are so accommodating.

Once again, great fun at the [Komedia Comedy] club! The crowds were great and the staff is second to none. Thanks again!

Thanks so much for having me, it’s always a blast.

Thanks very much for last night. Genuinely one of the nicest spaces I’ve been to, and the whole team was so helpful and kind. We all felt very valued and cared for. It’s an excellent space and crowd, and I’d love to come back any time!

I always enjoy comedy at the Komedia. The venue is perfect for a comedy club – low ceilings and intimate, but also space for a good sized audience.
